Spending time with good company, having great conversation, and enjoying delicious food in wonderful surroundings is something I never tire of. Recently, I was invited to The Printing Press at Edinburgh George Street’s Principal Hotel to do just that.

We are so fortunate to have the most glorious architecture here in Edinburgh, and it certainly adds to the pleasure and creates extra ambiance when socialising. What I especially like about Principal Hotels is that they are sympathetically decorated to maintain the stunning original features of the buildings they inhabit. I have stayed at the George Street Principal, as well as the York and Manchester locations. They are all unique and stunning in their own way, whilst maintaining continuity of service and standards.

On arrival we were seated at a cosy booth, and as it was a beautiful summer’s evening, we decided to order Italian prosecco whilst we perused the menu. I decided to start with seared scallops with a carrot remoulade – so fresh and light.

Sirloin steak served with fries and a side of rocket and parmesan salad was too good to refuse.

The only time I eat dessert is when I dine out, so the duck egg custard tart, with rhubarb and white chocolate ice-cream was not to be resisted. Followed by a leisurely coffee, the evening reluctantly had to come to a close.

Experiencing the warmest summer since 1976 seems to have brought a more convivial atmosphere to our beautiful city – long may it continue.
